Sparo Ug took to social media to express his excitement upon nomination in the recently announced MTN UG Hip Hop Awards 2021 as the Best Eastern Uganda artist of the year. He extensively implored his fans and well-wishers to vote for him so as to bring the award home.

Who is Sparo UG

Born and raised in Kumi, Sparo UG a.k.a Onapakol Samuel, starting embracing Rap Music at the early age of 9. In 2010 he was inspired by Eminem’s hit song Not Afraid in the Album Recovery. He started Rapping along to his songs till he recorded his own hit songs 7 years later Killing It, My brain, Attack On The Rappers, and the Famous collaboration with Saint Cross “Dreams Come True“. He is the C.E.O of Samuelona Music Group – SMG working with Simple Bullet and Rocker KT.

The competition

The competition is not a one-horse race. Sparo is up against urban aksents’ Aj Stylz, Leumas Owabajaja who has already won in this same category once in 2017, and BMG music duo who call themselves Kings of the East.

However, Sparo’s energy and work in the previous year stands out and many have already tipped him to win this category.

The Awards

The awards, which are in their fifth edition, are organized by telco and mobile money transfer service provider MTN Uganda and The Tribe UG, an online hip hop and marketing platform. They seek to recognize the best hip-hop releases and artists in Uganda.
